Admission To PHD


Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany (BSIP), Lucknow, an autonomous research institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, is a premier research organization engaged in research activities in the field of plant and earth sciences, both on pure and applied aspects. Research in fossil plant taxonomy, morphology, anatomy, evolutionary aspects of plant life through the geological ages, biodiversity, vegetation dynamics, palynology, evolution, marine and continental ecosystems, biostratigraphy, geochemistry, geochronology, coal petrology, polar research, glaciology, dendrochronology, climate change, archaeobotany and allied aspects, is pursued in Institute.
BSIP invites applications from eligible students to pursue their doctoral work in one of the above fields.

Eligibility:

Category I: Candidates with 1st class M.Sc./M.Tech. degree in earth/life science or any other relevant discipline plus CSIR-UGC NET (JRF) qualification/DST INSPIRE Fellowship or any other Fellowship sponsored by government organizations are eligible to apply.

Category II: Self-supported candidates with 1st class M.Sc./M.Tech. degree in earth/life science or any other relevant discipline (candidates in this category may be asked to appear in a screening test and/or personal interview).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE


Interested candidates are required to apply with a CV with recent passport size photograph, photocopies of academic records and a write up of about 250 words on the field of interest. The application along with the necessary documents should be submitted either by email to the Director BSIP (E-mail: director@bsip.res.in) or by post to the Director, Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany, 53 University Road, Lucknow 226007 (UP). There is no last date for receiving applications. Applications will be processed on a quarterly basis, and no interim enquiries will be entertained.

Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR)


The Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) was established in 2011 by an Act of Parliament, the Academy of Scientific Innovative Research Act, 2011 vide The Gazette of India No. 15 dated February 7, 2012 and notified on April 3, 2012 as an ‘Institution of National Importance’ (interim operations started in June, 2010). AcSIR has adopted the mandate to create and train some of the best of tomorrow’s Science & Technology leaders through a combination of innovative and novel curricula, pedagogy and evaluation. AcSIR’s focus will be on imparting instruction and providing research opportunities in the domain of science & engineering; and to equip them with the skills to innovate and conduct seamless interdisciplinary research. AcSIR is a world class research academy functioning within 44 national laboratories, 6 units and 39 extension centres, encompassing biological, physical, chemical and engineering sciences, of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) that have the country’s best infrastructural facilities.
Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP) signed a MoU with AcSIR in January, 2020 primarily for the PhD program. Students can register for Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences within the institute projects under AcSIR PhD programs. BSIP provide detailed course work on multiple subjects and also training on facilities/instruments available within the campus.
